Am I just getting old?

So, the young vibrant Kasondra has finally turned 32 like the rest of her fellow 1976 friends. (August seems SOOO far away when your closest friends have 1st quarter bdays) As I rolled out of bed this morning I said to my self, "Self, you are getting old!" Reasons?

MUSIC: Well, I turned on MTV Jams and quickly realized I don't like todays music and turned that crap off. I'm starting to sound like my parents did 20 years ago when they said R&B just wasn't the same anymore. I feel the same about Hip Hop, it just isn't the same! Waking up to "she got a Donk" by Soulja Boy is not fun to me. I'm thinking 10 years ago I would have gotten out of the bed smiling and dancing. Now it just sounds like loud noise in my ear. I so miss the 90s music! Hmm, or is it just that the music of today is indeed TRASH! :-)

DANCE: Am I the only one that can't keep up? The G5, Superman that hoe dance, the dance in she got a donk, the rain dance, pon the river, give em' a run, dutty wine etc. etc. I so can't keep up. I just keep it with the 2 step and maybe add a little twist like 50. I'm 2 old and don't have the energy or desire to learn all those darn dances. The Superman that hoe dance has like 15 steps. I mean really...What happened to the cabbage patch, the whop, the Roger Rabbit, and simple stuff like the A-town stomp! I just can't hang.

CLOTHES: Okay, I used to be known for rocking my flat abs and wearing tops to show off my cleavage. I gave it up when I turned 30 due to the fact that I just feel that at 30 I don't need to be on the meat rack like that! Yes, I may still "have it" but I don't need to show it like that. So, the other day I was looking at Mariah Carey's "I'll be loving you long time" video. I was disgusted by the LACK of clothing she had on. Go cover up, you're like 40 in a bikini and half top with tight daisy dukes. Am I just getting old or is she just to darn old to wear 21 year old clothing...nice body or not!

SOCIAL SCENE: Okay, so I'm so not interested in partying days in a row anymore. I used to be a trooper. I could go out 6 days in a row if there were places to go! Now, I have the energy to do it but who the heck wants to? I mean, I've been to a bizzillion clubs and lounges from DC to Brazil. I'm so not interested in being up in "the place to be" like that anymore. My homeboy will be 38 soon and he still road trips to parties. Umm, hello? Am I just getting old before my time or is that strange? I haven't seen a party in years that warranted me buying a flight to attend! I mean really, is it that serious?

LOOKS: LMAO at the comment I'm about to make in pure Kasondra style. I'm still as ravishing as I was at 21 so in the looks department, I ain't getting old! :-)

So, POST some of your "getting old" moments or am I the only one out there....Don't let me feel alone. Post People :-)

Also, if you laughed or had to ask "What is that dance" to my post. You just had an OLD moment!

Nope you surely are not strange and its definitely something many of the 1976 women are going through right now. Time and life experiences calls for certain kinds of changes. Songs, hanging out, looking young just simply depends on the state of being you're in at the time. Mariah she makes me sick! I am so sick of her and her same style videos, lying around, caressing her body in her skimpy clothes. Nope you not strange in that department either. But we ain't getting old, we just getting wiser! Embrace it.

I agree! We aren't getting old...at least I'm not :-) Although, when reading the blog, I had to ask myself a few questions regarding the dances and such. Now, that made me feel a little "seasoned." I mean, I have the energy to do all of that stuff, but why would I do that in a room full of people just to look like a total fool. LOL! You gotta love "lookn back...lookn back, lookn back, lookn back."

Yes Kasondra, you are getting old. Consider yourself lucky. You could be dead. I know that's a bit morbid but that's the alternative. So live life to the fullest!!

As for the music, I totally agree with you - today's music (rap, R&B, etc.) sucks to no end. But recently, I've found myself listening to some old school hip hop and R&B only to realize that it wasn't very good then either. Alot of it wasn't. I guess there's just more of the wack stuff to go around now. That's unfortunate.

The dances, well I suppose there were just as many dances back in the day but with fewer steps. Besides, if you are going to have a wack song, you need a wack dance. It only makes sense.

Clothes; yeah you, Mariah and every other woman should cover up. And I'm glad you do. Cover up and you won't be objectified (as much).

Looks - yeah I'm sure you still got it; LoL.

I know I left out some stuff but I'm tired. After all I'm getting old. ;o)

I agree with Makeba we are not getting old we are just becoming more in tune with who we are. We no longer need to "be seen" on the scene every weekend and at every club. We are comfortable in who we are and where we are going. Music is garbage right now and has absolutely no substance. Plus who in the h.e.double hockey sticks knows what in the world Little Wayne is even saying!! Furthermore, everybody I know had to look up the lyrics to superman or whatever the name of that soulja boy song is. Come on admit it people you did not know what "superman that ho" meant until somebody told you.

U R just in the nesting stage girl. You will "check out" of the fast lane for a minute til you handle up on your 'family' 'bitness'. It takes a minute . You'll be back. Don't let yourself get so isolated that you have to be fished back out with the largest fishing pole. LOL
Moment of 'maturity', realizing I would rather be comfy in flats than flyy with heels, LOL

Happy Belated B-day I'm such a terrible friend :(

32 is not old. Personally I can't stand the music that’s out today. I don't even listen to the radio anymore.

Yes Mariah gets on my ever lasting nerves. She is far too old to be wearing that crap. Just because you have the body to wear it doesn't mean you should. It's called having class. You can be sexy and not trashy...

I am a firm believer once you reach 30 it's time to let go of the midriff shirts and mini skirts. Oh and don't even get me started on the so called new dances all that jumping around is not dancing... I don’t even know half of the dances you mentioned. Shoot I am the TWO Step QUEEN :)

As far as your homeboys remember women mature faster than men. I have male friends in their late 30's to early 40's still clubbing... LOL

Girl I still say "FRESH" so am I old and clueless... Nope just wiser, and more sophisticated. :)

Oh and I’m not hating on Mariah if I was going for the trashy look, I have the body to wear mini’s as well.

Happy belated b-day...

I know what you mean... Man, I'm getting old to. Just yesterday it felt like I was 22! So if I'm feeling like that I can imagine how you feel!

I think your confidence is so positive. Its so great when regular black women who dont look like those model chics still think that theyre beautiful. You dont have to be skinny or glamorous to feel pretty. And you don't have to be 25 either!
